An Unlikely Pair: Business and La Dolce Vita
By Massimo Amici |
ROME -- The Eternal City's famous Via Veneto will be the home of an unlikely cross between a traditional market and an exclusive social club for three days during the upcoming RomeFilmFest, with an event organizers are calling "The Business Street."
Immortalized in Federico Fellini's "La Dolce Vita," Via Veneto isn't known as much for its business acumen as it is for its lavish hotels, top-notch restaurants, and posh clubs. But from Oct. 14-16 that will change, as several of the street's hotels will host what festival co-director Teresa Cavina called "A new kind of market."
"The main thing with 'The Business Street' is the encounter," Cavina said during the press briefing announcing the festival's lineup. "More than 200 buyers will be on hand and the setting will be there for deals to be made. After that, it's out of our hands."

Organizers say "The Business Street" will lack the stands and facilities of traditional markets like the ones in Cannes, Berlin, and Toronto. But it will not be void of any facilities as most other festivals are. Instead, there will be something in between: a handful of places where the right people can meet, chat, and see what might be possible.
Cavina said the three-day length for "The Business Street" is a work in progress, and it could be lengthened or shortened in future editions of the festival.
"We'll start with three days and afterward will figure out if in the future it needs to be longer, shorter, or the same length," she said.
